Settings reference

Open Settings → DecksMD for the plugin-wide options below. Per-deck behavior (scheduling, header level, daily limits, exams) lives in profiles instead, reached from the Manage profiles button in the deck panel.

Language

Section titled “Language”
  • Language — the plugin UI language. Auto follows Obsidian’s language; changing it re-renders settings immediately.

Review

Section titled “Review”
  • Show progress — show the progress bar and counters during a session.
  • Session duration — length of a timed session, 1–60 minutes (default 25).
  • Study day starts at — the hour the “day” rolls over for daily limits (0–23, default 4 AM), so a late-night session still counts toward the right day.
  • Global review cap — optionally cap total reviews per day across all decks (on top of per-deck limits).
  • Leech threshold — how many lapses before a card is flagged a leech (default 8).
  • Dense-card character threshold — back length before a card is flagged dense (default 500).

Keyboard shortcuts

Section titled “Keyboard shortcuts”
  • Enable keyboard shortcuts — master toggle.
  • Review keys — rebind Again / Hard / Good / Easy and Reveal (click to capture; duplicates are caught; reset to defaults available).

Parsing

Section titled “Parsing”
  • Deck tag — the base tag that turns a note into a deck (default #decks). Renaming it migrates your existing tag → profile mappings.
  • Folder search path — scan the whole vault, or restrict deck discovery to one folder.

Card templates

Section titled “Card templates”
  • Template folder — the folder DecksMD watches for card templates. Empty disables templates.

Canvas decks

Section titled “Canvas decks”
  • Canvas decks folder — every .canvas file inside becomes a deck. Empty disables canvas scanning.
  • Canvas deck tag — applied to all canvas decks (default #decks/canvas). See Canvas decks.

UI

Section titled “UI”
  • Background refresh — how often DecksMD rescans for changes (1–60s), with an enable toggle.
  • Enable notices — show pop-up notices for actions.
  • Display mode — open the review, flashcard manager, and AI generator each as a modal or a workspace tab.
  • Minimum deck card count — hide decks with fewer than this many cards (0 shows all).

AI features

Section titled “AI features”
  • Enable AI features — off until you turn it on and add a key.
  • Provider and Model — pick your provider and a model (or enter a custom one).
  • Local base URL — endpoint for a local, OpenAI-compatible server (e.g. Ollama or LM Studio).
  • API key — stored locally in a separate file, never written to data.json or synced. See AI assistance for how keys and requests are handled.

Backup

Section titled “Backup”
  • Automatic backups — enable and set how many to keep (3–10, default 5).
  • Create backup now — snapshot the database on demand.
  • Restore — restore from a listed backup or from a .db file, or rebuild state from review logs as a recovery option.

FSRS optimization

Section titled “FSRS optimization”
  • Shows your trained-weights status; Optimize trains weights on your review history and Reset clears them. See Algorithm tuning.

Debug

Section titled “Debug”
  • Enable logging and Performance logs — verbose output for troubleshooting.

File locations

Section titled “File locations”
  • Database, Backup, and Sync-log folders — move DecksMD’s files out of .obsidian/ (some changes need a restart). Useful so iCloud syncs them at first-class priority — see Multi-device sync.

Database management

Section titled “Database management”
  • Purge database — wipe all cards, reviews, decks, and statistics, then re-sync from your vault. Requires typing a confirmation word.
